Mother Tongue is hiring an Arabic Language Manager to help own the Arabic localization program for a messaging app dedicated to user-privacy (the Client). We localize into Arabic designed to be understandable to Arabic-speaking users across the world. 

This position will report to the Client Head of Localization and collaborate with Mother Tongue Account Managers to deliver a world-class user experience to their members worldwide. The Language Manager will have the unique opportunity to work cross-functionally with the Client and Mother Tongue to drive creative new localization initiatives and be a voice for their user base. 

The ideal candidate will be curious, humble, and eager to learn. You’ll be passionate about globalization and privacy, bringing people together and paying meticulous attention to detail. Experience is great, but passion is better. We’re looking for someone who is excited about user-privacy and an active user of social media and messaging apps in their locale.

What You’ll Do

The Client is hiring a Language Manager to drive the final quality and the Arabic tone of voice for the app. We are seeking suppliers who can work on Arabic content that can be understood by Arabic speakers across the world.  

This is a part-time, hourly, contract position that can be based anywhere in the world. Weekly hourly commitment will range between 3 to 15 hours per week. The Language Manager will report directly to the Client Head of Localization and will work with Mother Tongue Account Management teams to deliver high quality, relevant, and market appropriate localization to our users around the world. Here is a sampling of the day-to-day tasks associated with the position:

  • Develop and maintain glossary, style and language guidelines, while setting the standard for quality expectations
  • Communicate proactively with the Client Localization team, Mother Tongue translators and project managers to weigh in on terminology, style and translation choices
  • Review, edit and give comprehensive feedback on localized content completed by Mother Tongue translators 
  • Take an active interest in brand strategy, localization operations and help make decisions for international rollout

What You Bring

  • Native fluency in Arabic
  • Ability to translate for a wide-reaching Arabic audience required 
  • Demonstrated passion for digital privacy and experience working with IT companies or in the technology sector
  • Expert knowledge of app conventions for localized Arabic apps (e.g., familiarity with Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram in Arabic)
  • 2-5 years of experience in English-to-Arabic content; preferably via education, or by working on marketing, social media, or digital platforms
  • Strong attention to detail, ability to multitask and see things through to completion
  • A sound ability to make decisions and use good judgment
  • Strong communication skills and reliability 

Bonus Points if you can/have

  • Advanced degree in your language
  • Technical expertise in Right-to-Left (RTL) rendering
  • Experience using CAT Tools like Smartling and translation technology
  • Digital Marketing, SEO and ASO experience
  • Proficiency in a RTL language other than Arabic
