About This Position

We are looking for a strategic, dynamic and results oriented press coordinator. As press officer, you will oversee, coordinate, and enhance press activities that involves the President of the IDB and other Senior Executives, ensuring effective communication and a positive public image in both English and Portuguese speaking regions.

You will work in the Executive Communications team part of the External Affairs and Communications Department. This team is responsible for supporting the communications of the Office of the President, producing speeches, talking points, op-eds, background information for interviews, and develop cross-cutting messages to help position the work of the IDB Group. The team ensures proper alignment and coordination of all communication efforts with our country offices, operational sectors, corporate functions, IDB Lab and IDB Invest.

What you’ll do

  • Press Relations:
  • Develop and maintain relationships with journalists, media houses, and influencers in both English and Portuguese speaking territories.
  • Handle media inquiries, arrange interviews, and coordinate press conferences.
  • Monitor media coverage of the organization, identifying opportunities and challenges.
  • Content Development:
  • Collaborate with the communications team to develop press releases, statements, and other media materials in English and Portuguese.
  • Coordinate with the speechwriter and other content creators to ensure consistency in messaging across all press materials.
  • Event Coordination:
  • Manage logistics for media events, including press conferences, media briefings, and interviews.
  • Ensure that all events are accessible to media personnel and facilitate their needs during such events.
  • Translation and Localization:
  • Translate press materials between English and Portuguese.
  • Ensure messaging is culturally sensitive and tailored to local media landscapes.
  • Crisis Management:
  • Collaborate with senior leadership and the communications team to address any negative press or public relations crises.
  • Develop and implement crisis communication plans when necessary.

What you’ll need

  • Education: Master’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field (or the equivalence between experience and education).
  • Experience: At least 5 years of experience in media relations, press coordination, or a related role. Proven proficiency in both English and Portuguese, with a portfolio that showcases press releases or media communications in both languages.
  • Languages: Proficiency in English and one of the other Bank official languages (Spanish, French or Portuguese) is required.

Requirements

  • Citizenship: You are a citizen of one of our 48-member countries. We may offer assistance with relocation and visa applications for you and your eligible dependents.
  • Consanguinity: You have no family members (up to the fourth degree of consanguinity and second degree of affinity, including spouse) working at the IDB, IDB Invest, or IDB Lab.

Type of contract and duration

  • Staff: International staff contract, 36 months initially, renewable upon mutual agreement.
