Job Description

Volga Partners, a U.S.-based company, provides Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning solutions for leading technology firms and multinational corporations. Our services include IT support, business process outsourcing, and crowd-sourcing solutions across global markets.

We are seeking experienced and highly skilled freelance Language Data Quality Specialists to join a remote team supporting Filipino (Tagalog) language. This role involves data annotation, evaluation, translation, and content generation tasks, ideal for those with significant language experience and a strong grasp of complex linguistic tasks.

  • Able to independently manage complex tasks including content generation, translation, review, audit, LQA, and linguistic asset updates.

Compensation:

Starting rate for Philippines only: USD $8.00 – $12.00 per hour, based on experience and qualifications. Candidates from other countries may also apply, provided they meet client compliance and job scope requirements.

Task-Based Project Scope:

This freelance, task-based role is designed for supplemental income, with assignments distributed as they become available. Notifications will be sent via WhatsApp, email, or Slack (after onboarding). Tasks are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, making this role suitable for those who are comfortable with flexible, on-demand work.

Assessment and Requirements:

To be considered for this role, in addition to recruiter interviews, candidates must successfully pass a challenging, unpaid initial assessment. This assessment is designed to evaluate the depth of your linguistic and analytical skills and is a critical step in our selection process. Please note that no training is provided prior to this assessment.

The assessment includes the following:

  • Creative Writing: Candidates select a topic, write a piece in their language, and translate it into English.
  • Audit: Candidates review a paragraph in their language, noting issues, identifying root causes, and adding observations.
  • Content Rewrite: Using the audit notes, candidates rewrite the content with suggested corrections.
  • Process Feedback: Candidates develop a list of Dos and Don’ts based on the task’s objectives, along with any additional observations.

Each part of the assessment is expected to take 15–30 minutes, with the Creative Writing portion potentially taking 30–60 minutes. In total, the assessment can take up to 2.5 hours, depending on the candidate’s pace. Please note that candidates must provide their own laptops and internet for this assessment.

Important: The assessment time and any onboarding preparation are unpaid, and candidates are required to complete this independently to qualify for the role.

Key Responsibilities and Assessments:

  1. Data Interpretation: Analyze datasets, transforming raw data into actionable insights that support client objectives.
  2. Content Creation and Translation: Create high-quality content from scratch and translate it effectively into English to meet project standards.
  3. Quality Assurance: Perform comprehensive quality checks, identify issues, root causes, and implement corrective measures to ensure data integrity.
  4. Linguistic Analysis and Cultural Nuances: Apply linguistic and cultural knowledge to data to ensure high accuracy and relevance for the target audience.
  5. Evaluation Tasks: Handle data annotation, labeling, and updates to linguistic assets.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Extensive Experience: 8+ years in language evaluation, translation, and data quality assurance.
  • Advanced Linguistic Skills: Ability to generate high-quality content, translations, and conduct detailed audits.
  • Educational Background: A Master’s or PhD in a relevant field (linguistics, translation, or localization) is a plus, but not required. 
  • Proactive Problem-Solving: A keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to identifying and resolving data quality issues.
  • Device Requirements: Must have a reliable laptop and high-speed internet to ensure productivity.

Additional Information:

  • Freelance/Task-Based Role: Work hours are irregular and depend on task availability, averaging 0 to 20 hours per week.
  • Time Zone: Availability aligned with IST (preferred start from 8 am IST onwards).
  • Onboarding: Candidates will complete onboarding through Deel.com to ensure international compliance standards. A W-8 BEN form will be provided for non-U.S. residents.
  • Independent Contractor: This is a 1099 contractor position; international applicants should be aware of their country’s tax regulations regarding freelance work.
