Job Title: Linguist II
Location: US – CA – Burlingame
Summary
- The main function of a Linguist is to determine Assistant data needs and setting strategic vision for data based model and product improvements.
Job Responsibilities:
- Provide linguistic expertise in the areas of phonetics, phonology, lexicography, dialectology, and NLP.
- Create guidelines for crowdsourcing data collection, annotation, and evaluation
- Build datasets, run and modify data pipelines, and train, analyze, evaluate machine learning models.
- Identify best practices and improve procedures across data systems.
- Develop complex and consistent linguistic analyses
- Clearly communicate with project stakeholders.
- Collaborate seamlessly with cross-functional teams, conversation designers, researchers, engineers, and product managers to improve a digital assistant.
- Collaborate with other linguists and data operations teams in data collection, data curation, translation, localization and annotation efforts
Skills:
- Knowledge of phonetics, phonology, sociolinguistics, dialectology and other areas of linguistics.
- Experience with data crowdsourcing processes
- Experience writing 3P vendor-facing guidelines
- Experience of analyzing language data, solving language issues.
- Intermediate Python, SQL skills and solid Regex knowledge.
- Self-motivated and stay on top of owned areas proactively.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Team player and comfortable with fast-paced work flow.
- Take responsibility for task completion and schedule and be diligent to achieve the goals.
- Able to work in not-fully-defined projects/space and proactively debug and seek out solutions.
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in linguistics, language technologies, computational linguistics, speech science, or related field.
- Native or advanced language skills in German is a must.
- Intermediate/advanced language skills on Italian, India languages, Korean, Japanese, Portuguese is a plus.
