We are looking for a Translator in Malaysia who will be responsible for translating Chinese into English. The translator must provide a consistently high standard of translation quality and the work must be completed within defined time-frames. The translator must write sentences that maintain or duplicate the structure and style of the original meaning while keeping the ideas and facts of the original meaning accurate. The translator should not specialise in certain subjects – but must be able to translate across all general subjects.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Reading through original material and rewriting it in the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained.
  • Using specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and reference books to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used. Be consistent in the use of specialist vocabulary.
  • Maintain a high level of understanding of client’s translation needs. Able to adapt to the needs of clients. Customise where necessary.
  • Ensures high quality and relevancy of translations – translation is clear, concise and free of typographical errors. Translations must be produced in correct grammar & no spelling errors.
  • Timely submissions of translations – translations are submitted on time, as scheduled. Proactive in recommending solutions to issues and reacts effectively & quickly to any technical issues that could impede delivery time.
  • Clearly communicate and escalate any work issues to the person in-charge of translators in a timely manner.


  • Willing to work on a fixed term part time basis.
  • Tertiary education is preferred but not essential.
  • Minimum 1 year of translation experience. Attention to detail combined with the ability to work quickly to meet deadlines. Collaborative and willing to share knowledge.
  • Excellent Chinese and English communication skills and command of grammar, able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organisation.
  • Computer literacy: MS Word and Excel, databases, Gsuite application. Able to adapt quickly to new technology.
