Job Description

This is a specialized project management role that manages localization work across various multi-media product types on behalf of all sections of the Publishing Services Department (PSD). Product types may include websites, social media content, digital media content, videos, audio recordings, publications, training materials, live events, etc. Localization Project Managers consult with project stakeholders on project localization and language strategy. They provide expertise on language production and language publishing. This role aggregates cost and schedule estimates for translation requests. This role oversees the on-time delivery of translation requests and ensures requests are delivered within established estimates and bids. Localization Project Managers effectively manage translation and language production requests within the appropriate tools and systems and interact with and support the international language offices working on these requests.

Responsibilities

  • Project Manager/Program Manager/Product Manager interface – 20%
    • Expertise related to translation and translation quality across all delivery channels, including providing localization and globalization expertise.
    • Coordinate subject matter experts as needed.
    • Establishes appropriate scope, schedule, and budget around translation requests.
    • Provides cost estimates and bids as requested.
    • May interface with various department directors.
  • Setup for translation requests and translation quality reviews (Workfront/Plunet) – 30%
    • Provides translation project information (via applicable tools) to translation work groups, including schedules, deadlines, source files, project and product identification, deliverable definitions, financial information, hand-off/workflow instructions, etc.
    • Manages projects of low complexity (9 languages or less/$30k budget or less) with limited scope and time frame.
  • Translation request monitoring, follow-up, and troubleshooting – 50%
    • Provides language offices with instructions, clarification, and other various assistance as they work on various translation requests and translation quality reviews.
    • Provides status reports to key stakeholders.
    • Monitors progress and hand-offs between work groups to ensure and maintain translation integrity and quality.
    • Coordinates work groups to discuss workflows, establish hand-offs, and evaluate troubleshooting options.
    • Effectively manages translation delays and issues and communicates to stakeholders any change management impacts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a related field required.
  • Minimum 3 years of work experience in one or more of the following: translation, interpretation, localization project management, or related field.
  • Highly proficient in English and at least one other language, or a firm understanding of cultural differences.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate successfully across language and cultural boundaries.
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously in industry standard project and translation management tools.
  • High level of organization and the ability to effectively communicate across all levels of an organization.
  • Passion for high levels of customer service.
  • Solid background in problem solving.
  • Experience with web design and/or localization of web products is a plus.
  • Localization Project Management Certification preferred.
