Role Description
An English Linguist is a position that maintains the highest quality of subtitles. Bespoke Lab’s linguists not only manage or oversee a simple translation editing process but also strive to deliver the originality of the content fully during the localization process. Bespoke Lab’s Linguists are independent language experts who have a deep understanding of the content they work on and strictly provide only high-quality subtitles in the target language to ensure that the viewers will not face any difficulty in understanding the translated content. Linguists also reflect the standard of subtitles in the localization industry and are flexible to meet the client’s needs.
1. Quality Control
- Conduct quality checks to identify and correct errors in subtitles, such as grammatical errors, mistranslations, unnecessary omissions, and timing issues.
- Ensure the accuracy of translation that consists of puns, jokes, idioms, and special terms to be linguistically acceptable and familiar to the viewers.
2. Subtitle Editing
- Edit and proofread subtitles for any genre of movies and TV series in the target language to the highest quality according to linguistic standards and client guidelines while preserving the originality of the content.
- Conduct research to verify names, places, and other factual information to ensure accuracy in subtitles.
3. Feedback Incorporation
- Evaluate freelancer test results, conduct training, and provide constructive feedback.
- Incorporate feedback from clients and other stakeholders to refine subtitles and improve overall quality.
4. File Management
- Organize and manage subtitle files efficiently, keeping track of versions and revisions on the professional online platform.
Qualifications
1. Language Proficiency
- Professional proficiency in English and Korean
- Proficiency in grammar, punctuation, and syntax
2. Subtitling Experience
- 1+ years of translation/proofreading/QA experience, working on various media content
- Familiarity with subtitling software and tools
3. Cultural Awareness
- Understanding of cultural nuances and context to ensure accurate and culturally sensitive subtitles
4. Work Ethic
- Strong attention to detail and strict adherence to quality
- Ability to work efficiently and meet deadlines
- Positive attitude and good communication skills to coordinate with colleagues
- Able to work under pressure and with minimal supervision
