Technical Localization Specialist

What To Expect
Tesla is looking for a skilled Localization Specialist to join our team in Palo Alto, California. In this role, you’ll help ensure that all new UI features across Tesla’s vehicle infotainment systems (Model S/X, Model 3/Y, Cybertruck) are seamlessly localized to provide an exceptional user experience for our global markets.

As a Localization Specialist, you will collaborate closely with developers, feature owners, and designers to ensure Tesla’s user interfaces are both culturally and linguistically tailored for customers worldwide. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, brings a blend of strong translation skills and localization expertise, has experience in software testing, and is passionate about innovative technology. Flexibility to work unconventional hours, including weekends, when necessary, is also essential.

What You’ll Do

  • Translate and review customer-facing UI strings, mobile app content, and release notes for your target language
  • Create and validate JIRA tickets, monitor newly introduced strings, and address source string issues as needed
  • Assess processes to identify improvement opportunities and develop tools or scripts to streamline
  • Perform regular checks on localized content for each release to identify and address bugs or inconsistencies
  • Manage translation projects using tools like Smartling, ensuring timely delivery and quality outcomes
  • Coordinate internal and external review processes to maintain and improve translation quality standards
  • Trans-create and manage feature names in compliance with legal, branding, and cultural guidelines
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Website, Owner’s Manual) to align language, style, and terminology across products
  • Oversee the creation and upkeep of linguistic assets, including translation memories, glossaries, style guides, and reference materials

  • What You’ll Bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical experience
  • Translation experience in at least one of the following languages: Hebrew, Arabic, Finnish, Danish, Swedish, Romanian, Greek, Croatian, or Turkish
  • Expertise in software localization, including translation, review, and linguistic QA processes
  • Proficiency with industry-standard tools such as Stash, JIRA, Jenkins, and Git
  • Experience with Python, Regex, and RestAPI is a plus
  • Familiarity with Linux/Unix environments and related workflows
  • Exceptional organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously

  • Expected Compensation

    $60,000 – $210,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits

    Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
