Job Description
We are looking for a Senior Technical Writer to create and maintain technical documentation that communicates complex technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences. This position will be full-time and hybrid.
What You’ll Do
- Develop and execute a documentation strategy that aligns with the organization’s product development and release cycles
- Collaborate with product managers, developers, and subject matter experts to understand documentation needs
- Write, edit, and format technical documentation, including user manuals, online help, release notes, API documentation, and knowledge base articles
- Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise, and user-friendly content
- Identify and understand the target audience(s) for each document or piece of content
- Tailor documentation to suit the knowledge level and needs of different user groups
- Proficiently use documentation tools and software
- Maintain version control for documentation
- Create or collaborate with graphic designers to include visual elements like diagrams, screenshots, and illustrations to enhance comprehension
- Ensure consistency in visual elements and formatting
- Conduct usability testing of documentation with end users to gather feedback and make improvements
- Iterate and update documentation based on user feedback and changing product features
- Ensure that documentation complies with industry standards, regulations, and best practices
- Maintain documentation quality and consistency across all materials
- Coordinate translation and localization efforts for documentation as needed for global audiences
- Ensure that translated content maintains the same level of accuracy and clarity
- Provide training to end users and collaborate with other teams, including support, product management, and development, to gather information and feedback
- Keep documentation up-to-date with product changes, enhancements, and new features
- Communicate updates to users through release notes and other channels
- Collect and analyze user feedback to identify areas for improvement in documentation
- Provide support and guidance to users seeking help through documentation
Required
What You’ll Need:
- Bachelor’s degree in technical writing, English, computer science, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in technical writing, including experience in a senior or lead role
- Strong writing and editing skills, with a keen eye for detail and grammar
- Proficiency in using technical writing tools and software
- Familiarity with documentation best practices, standards, and style guides
- Knowledge of content management systems and version control systems
- Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and communicate them effectively
- Strong organizational and project management skills
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills
- Experience with Agile development methodologies is a plus
- Familiarity with the subject matter or technology being documented is beneficial
- Minimum 7 years of experience with API documentation
- Minimum 9 years of experience with documentation strategy development
- Minimum 10 years of experience with documentation tools and version control systems
- Minimum 8 years of experience in usability testing
- Minimum 10 years of experience ensuring compliance with industry standards
- Minimum 5 years of experience in translation and localization coordination
- Minimum 10 years of experience in training and collaboration with other teams
- Minimum 10 years of experience in collecting and analyzing user feedback
- Minimum 8 years of experience writing technical documentation for cloud-based software, such as Salesforce, AWS, and Snowflake
Physical Demands
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA and other federal, state, and local standards
- Sedentary work that involves sitting or remaining stationary most of the time with occasional need to move around the office to attend meetings, etc.
