Technical writer

Arenema Switzerland is looking for a new client, an experienced technical writer – remote work – 4 years contract – with occasional trips to Bern, Switzerland. Consultant location is open to Swiss, EU or India.

Job Overview

We are seeking a Technical Writer to support the documentation needs of a public organization’s IT products and services. The ideal candidate will be responsible for creating, managing, and maintaining end-user documentation, facilitating translation processes, and assisting with e-learning content publication. This role requires strong technical writing skills, collaboration with cross-functional teams, and knowledge of software localization and documentation tools.

Key Responsibilities

Documentation Development

  • Create and maintain end-user documentation, including online help, PDF guides, release notes, and knowledge base articles.
  • Ensure all documentation is accurate, clear, and user-friendly.
  • Publish documentation in the document management system (SharePoint).

Collaboration & Information Gathering

  • Work closely with managers, developers, testers, and deployment teams to collect and verify technical information.
  • Ensure documentation aligns with software features, functionality, and user needs.

Localization & Translation Support

  • Prepare and package documentation and software user interface files for translation.
  • Act as a point of contact for external translation service providers in the absence of the in-house technical writer.

E-learning & Multimedia Support

  • Assist in the publication of e-learning videos on the client’s training platform, Trainpost.
  • Support the development of training materials as needed.

Required Qualifications & ExperienceTechnical Capabilities

  • Mandatory:
  • Working knowledge of MadCap Flare for documentation management.
  • Understanding of software localization tools and practices (e.g., RC-WinTrans, SDL Passolo).
  • Proficiency in MS Visio and other flowchart/diagramming applications.
  • Basic graphic design knowledge.
  • Preferred:
  • Familiarity with postal industry terminology or UPU’s Postal Technology Centre products (IPS, IFS, CDS).
  • Knowledge of HTML5 and CSS for structuring and styling content.
  • Experience in e-learning development and training video creation.

  • Strong cross-cultural communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely in a flexible environment.

Language Skills

  • Fluency in English is essential.
  • French proficiency is an advantage.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Technical Writing, English, Journalism, or a related field.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in technical writing within a software development environment.
  • Experience working remotely and collaborating with cross-functional, global teams is beneficial.
