Translator (Korean)

The Translator role involves translating text and dialogue within NC games to ensure seamless localization and accessibility for players in the target market. Responsibilities include adapting content while maintaining context and cultural sensitivity, making sure to complete within target deadlines, managing terminology, and conducting quality assurance checks to guarantee accuracy and fluency. Successful candidates should possess exceptional linguistic skills, translation experience, experience with CAT tools such as MemoQ, a deep understanding of gaming culture, and a passion for providing players with an immersive, language-appropriate gaming experience. This position will also share constructive feedback, insights, and suggestions to help consistently improve Localization processes.

Responsibilities

  • Translate game content from Korean to English, ensuring appropriate cultural and linguistic localization.
  • Proofread translated texts for grammar, spelling and punctuation accuracy
  • Manage translation tasks in a Translation Management System
  • Build and manage game-specific term bases and translation memories
  • Respect the original intention of the Korean creators while adapting to the needs of our region
  • Understand and manage project scope and needs throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Proactively develop a good working relationship with all stakeholders and manage expectations
  • Control the integrity of localized software components using industry standard tools and practices.
  • Seek and provide constructive feedback
  • Follow up with internal team members to ensure translation meets their needs
  • Handle other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of prior translation experience
  • Advanced proficiency in Korean and native-level proficiency in English
  • Experience with CAT tools, such as MemoQ
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive attitude toward constructive criticism and collaborative creative work
  • Skilled with basic software programs (MS Office, etc.) and the ability to learn new ones quickly
  • Meticulous eye for detail and strong editing skills
  • Ability to question the given and think outside the box
  • Sensitivity and empathy when working across cultures
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment within deadlines and technical limitations

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in writing, editing, or relevant fields or equivalent experience
  • Familiarity with creative story-telling elements, conventions, and tropes
  • Strong understanding of translation memory
  • Knowledge and understanding of RPGs and a strong interest in the localization of narrative
  • Knowledge of localization tools, processes, and software
  • Passion for video games (with an emphasis on MMOs)
  • Intimate knowledge of NC franchises
