Localization Specialist (Translation Coordinator) – role definition and requirements

CORE TASKS:

  1. Manage translation process for Sony’s marketing websites and non-website content and ensure on-time and in-budget delivery aligned with project requirements
  2. Manage translation vendors to ensure on-time delivery of projects
  3. Manage translation queries
  4. Overlook translation content flow in content management and translation management tools, identify and troubleshoot issues
  5. Improve internal processes

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • University degree in Translation, Linguistics or similar
  • Outstanding English skills, especially written and spoken communication in a commercial environment
  • Advanced command of a 2nd foreign language is an asset
  • Experience in translation or managing translation projects on the vendor or the client side*
  • Experience using TMS is a plus
  • Understanding of key localization trends (MT, LLM) is a plus
  • Confident user of Outlook, Word, PowerPoint and Excel
  • Detail-orientation combined with the ability to juggle multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work cross-functionally in an international setting, partnering with team around the globe
  • Analytical thinking and decision-making skills
  • Ability to interpret complex or ambiguous project briefs into simple actionable items
  • Proactive and confident communication

*Hands-on experience with managing formal localization operations/workflows:

  1. Translation project management or translation quality management in a translation agency (working with clients, in-house linguistic teams and/or freelancers; managing multi-lingual projects, various file types)
  2. Translator in a translation agency (using TMS & CAT tools, working with translation project managers)
  3. Translation/Localization project management in a translation-buying company (such as Translation and Localization Services of Sony Global Business Services)

Being able to demonstrate knowledge or understanding of the key translation industry metrics, (examples below). If a candidate has the above experience, they will know the below terms and how to apply them.

  1. Translation Management Systems & their usage
  2. Wordcount in translation
  3. How translation is priced (e.g. rate per word)
  4. Translation Memory and Translation Memory Savings
  5. Machine Translation
