Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Subtitler role based in Seoul, South Korea at BESPOKE LAB. The Subtitler will create accurate, readable subtitles and closed captions for a variety of video content, ensuring synchronization with audio and adherence to style guidelines. Day-to-day tasks include translating spoken dialogue into written text, adapting language for clarity and cultural relevance, and revising subtitles for timing, consistency, and tone. The role involves close collaboration with production, localization, and quality assurance teams to meet delivery deadlines and maintain high standards of linguistic and technical quality. The Subtitler will also support continuous improvement of subtitling workflows and tools by providing feedback and implementing best practices.
Qualifications
- Strong Communication skills to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Proficiency in Translation for converting spoken content into accurate and culturally appropriate written text.
- Experience with Subtitles and Closed Captioning, including timing, formatting, and accessibility standards.
- Excellent Writing skills, with a focus on clarity, brevity, and consistent tone.
- Attention to detail and strong linguistic accuracy, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Familiarity with subtitling or captioning software and basic video playback tools.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and meet tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Knowledge of accessibility guidelines related to captions and subtitles is an advantage.
- Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Communications, Film, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Fluency in Korean and strong proficiency in English; additional languages are a plus.
