Crowdin is a “localization management platform for agile teams”. In this video, you’ll see my first experience with the localization tool. How did it go?

I’ve documented my whole journey with Crowdin from the first home page visit, through creating a project, to downloading the translated files in German, Japanese, and Czech.

Andrej Zito

Hey guys, what’s up? Welcome to another episode of the TMS UX series where together we discover new localization tools. My name is Andre and I will be sharing with you my experience and in this video, the experience will be with Crowdin. If you are new to this series, The way it works is that I roll the dice, which tells me which DMS to review the next. And then I try to translate a very simple word document and a spreadsheet using the DMS. So here we are rolling the dice. One more time. And let’s see what the rainbow sleeps like Elena. Remember to get Okay, be your editor. You want it again. But we need to roll in. Why did 345 18 think I saw that number already? Did we do it but maybe they reordered something 123451234512345123. Crowdin, Crowdin.

Andrej Zito

Now before we get into the full journey with Crowdin. Let me give you a short disclaimer. Everything I share here in this video is just my own personal opinion in my own personal experience. And I share my own thoughts what I think about the design and the style and the UI based on how I see the world what I think is beautiful, or what I think is not beautiful, what I think is intuitive. What I think is not intuitive, by no means is this suggestion or recommendation for me where the Crowdin or another TMS is the right fit for you or not everybody has different needs. So that’s not the point of this video. It’s purely about the UI and doing very simple task within the TMS of our choice. So with that being said, let’s have a look at my experience with Crowdin, Crowdin, Crowdin. Crowdin localization management platform for agile teams. coding is a proprietary cloud based localization technology and service company. Okay. We are boys and girls. Oh, oh. Oh, it’s moving. I was like, What is going on? Okay. Was it the react? No, he doesn’t react.

Andrej Zito

This is the first time that I’m seeing something moving here. So the things that these guys do differently? If you look at all the previous things, in most cases, and even on my website, I usually put this on the left side, extra on the left side. And then the visual on the right side. No, okay, so the animation stopped. I’m not sure why it’s not looped. Also, I guess the idea behind this is that we typically, unless your art L, we read from left to right. So your attention grabber should be on the left side. And because this doesn’t have any colors. It was just boring, which was a nice gimmick, I would say at this point.

Andrej Zito

I don’t know. Like I would read her first see this because the thing with these, these these these images, or in this case, this slight small animation that we see is in many cases, they don’t have any story. I mean, like it didn’t capture my attention because it was something new, but it doesn’t tell me anything about Crowdin. So I don’t know. But it’s not a big thing. It’s just maybe I’m just used to it so much to seeing the text first on the left side. But then I would again, argue what is the purpose of this? I can see it like I can I can get the idea that it’s like, I don’t know, maybe like you have the purpose of I mean, you have the tool to easily let’s say resize or add languages to your scope. And because I know it’s a crowd sourced thing, mostly.

Andrej Zito

It would be nice if the languages were maybe a little bit colorful, colorful, that’s my first impression from the from the above the fold. So what we see at start is that it seems very, very minimalistic when it comes to the colors. Rose I didn’t even like attention much to the green thing. So right now from the whole thing. Good. Even maybe because of the logo is black and white, it looks a little bit dull. So that’s why I think that like, if the colors were, if this was like a little bit more saturated, like you could actually see the colors, it’s not like a grayscale, or whatever this is, as this thing expands and adds or removes the languages, then those languages that were added would be getting the color, I think that would be a little bit more vibrant.

Andrej Zito

But otherwise, I’m not against it. Because, you know, even my website is very much black and white grayish with the purple as the primary color. But we’ll see below, when I start scrolling, how they use the green, or they utilize the green, a little bit more. So that’s that like to me, like this thing called, I don’t know if I should call it hero image. Or if the hero image is only when it’s like a background for the above the fold, like this main thing here, which in this case was some slight animation. To me, it doesn’t do that much. I’m really loaded again. Okay, yes. So changing the scope. It looks nice. See, did they miss these things? Those things or don’t have any language? Is it on purpose? Okay, so we have nine languages. We do have languages, we do have languages. We don’t have anything here. We don’t have anything here. And we don’t have anything here and here. And then that emission stops. So that’s confusing to me.

Andrej Zito

Anyway, let’s look at the UDP agile localization for companies. Okay, very specific protect companies, if you do anything else. And it’s agile localization is a cloud based solution that streamlines localization management for you. perfect place to effectively manage all of your multilingual content. Get Started for free, sign up, okay, so these things are consistent. We have action on hover, it loses the contrast, but that’s fine. I request them all. This is nice, this looks nice. Sound the ghost button. But it’s just this text that looks like a button when you hover I like it. I like the actual use through my own website, trusted by successful businesses around the globe. So this is again, a different implementation of this thing. Know last time when we did po editors that they had, they had a huge section which listed like I don’t know, 20 on their customers, and it was a big thing. Usually this normally I see this, this part, which is like more customers.

Andrej Zito

This gets a lot more attention like It’s its own section, because I think it’s quite important. Like you’re bragging, which are who are your big companies, but these guys put it slightly in the background. So because this thing is like so grayish. I don’t think like people who just scroll at it right away will pay that much attention to it. Of course you see the logos of the companies. So that’s at least something but just from my experience, I’m not saying this is wrong. But if you have successful businesses that trust you I think it maybe should be displayed a little bit more. So that’s this part Crowdin so the logo not sure what it should represent.

Andrej Zito

Like I said black and white product demo pricing customers enterprise. It looks fine. It’s at least clean so the only color that you’ve got get offered for domain CTA so that’s neat. Okay, let’s go down all of your multilingual content in one place Scrum brings people content together allows you to streamline the liquidation process. Keep your word for agile, okay for free. Okay, forget about this. Yes, good. So can get started for free. So I can Do my recording and maybe even the edits today, you will have all of your materials recorded in one place. We’re boycotting Briggs people content. Current features. Okay, so here we have a goes button. Okay, it gets the same. The same, it looks like the same. It looks like the same color down here. I mean as here, which actually makes sense to me.

Andrej Zito

So my first initial reaction would be like, because of how I implemented it on my own thing is that when you have the border here, which is, which is I think this, it’s the darker green, and then you hover it, I’m used to having the goes buttons on hover, take the full green, like the green would be everywhere. And maybe Crowdin features would be what, but I guess this way, you can really make this thing stand up. Yeah. Because the the header still sticks to the page. So even if I hover on this one, it wouldn’t, let’s say, during that hover state to compete with this one. So this button still has the highest, let’s say, tension, point focal point, or how’s it called? So yeah, maybe this is something I should think about for my own website. Kind of like, because it doesn’t look like a button. So you know, it’s a button. I’m just, yeah, I’m still debating.

Andrej Zito

Okay, let’s move on how it works. Ooh, very nice. So here we have more colors. This looks very nice. first glance how it works. localization did runs in parallel with your team’s progress. Okay, integrate Content Management work efficiently over translation. Okay, what did the blue things represent? single company wide localization closure, Baba, what am I calling updates on original tasks? Nairobi’s told about target translation, right so we just keep doing peat bits and pieces that you add to your main source. They you just send them for translation whenever we want to write but is that a new thing? I’m not sure but this looks nice. Okay, here we have finally some more customer things. This time with the colors Oh, Kickstarter. Nice. This court nice and crisp with customer see above wrote it. Okay, the style here is the same. We have only one testimonial. Okay, yeah, I can click on the companies and get more of their testimonials. So we only have itoki I talkie just to be perfect. Okay, that’s nice. Okay, when it comes to style, I like it again. So you have a clear separation through the gray background, the quote marks.

Andrej Zito

Normally I see it again, this is something where these guys do it differently. And I like it normally have the quote marks, I mean, normally, I should stop seeing normally, in my experience what I’ve seen so far, you have this once, so they added a couple more times, blended with the backgrounds. It’s like, hey, this section is about quotes. I guess I like it because it doesn’t overpower anything. So it’s fine. Transition management for any team Crowdin is a flexible company wide solution that can be customized to meet the specific needs of a team sign up. Again, we have the same style as above. So the colors are the same as here. So I like it. We haven’t seen the Okay, scroll to the bottom. So we will not see the UI at all on the homepage. But I guess if you click the features, maybe we’ll see there. I don’t know. I’m tempted to click the features, but we haven’t done it before. So I don’t want to do it for this one. We have the same thing here for engineering team bla bla bla bla bla bla, same style with the box that has the shadow Connect tools, you connect to tools you already use. Right here we have some icons. Sure.

Andrej Zito

That’s fine. We have black dry Crowdin for free today join 1000s of people already making the product products multilingual sample free. Okay, this part I like, I also like the large whitespace here. Again, it’s kind of like, Hey, we did this, we told you about this, this, there’s you like it and now Greg riding for free today, you’re ready to try it. I usually typically on my website, these kind of like the final call to action, I have less pace because it’s like a I already asked you to do it here above the fold. But I do like the space because it really makes it more stand out more, I would say if you had like a tiny section lag, let’s say this one. But this one because it has such a whitespace it’s like, it’s kind of looks like a second above the fold, which typically has a lot of space for the uvp to stand out. So I liked it. I liked it. I like that. Because this is wack.

Andrej Zito

So what I like here is that, at least this illustration, which doesn’t show absolutely anything about the tool. So so far, we haven’t seen anything about tool like how the UI looks inside. The term maybe not happy about, maybe it will be lower. What I The thing that I do like about this is that you can see here, the colors are looking very nice. But they’re not overpowering anything. So this kind of like like this, the saturated green, this blue, it looks nice, it adds a little bit of colors to the mix, it doesn’t break the whole thing.

Andrej Zito

So this kind of thing I would like to see here to give it a little bit more colors without overpowering this part. Okay, then we have the typical three benefits, automation, Corporation quality, blah, blah, blah, it looks good. The first time, I don’t know maybe, again, based on my experience, maybe I would personally align the icon to the left. So I like this, like automation. But I think it still looks good. This looks good. So again, this is just purely what I’m used to. And I do like it. So again, it’s something that I might want to adopt for my own website, the same as with this thing. So I’m learning a few things here that I haven’t seen before. And they look nice. So we have the benefits in a box that’s like pushed out through the shadows. It looks nice. It’s kind of like stands out, give us the depth to the page. I do like that.

Andrej Zito

We also see a little bit of orange here, which we haven’t seen before. But it works well with the black. And then we just have the footer, which is the typical. Boring think. So yeah, I think he looks definitely nice and clean. I would say modern. I like these graphics. Even though I typically prefer to see the UI in action. The only thing to me, which really is odd is this thing. Like the fact that it’s an animation for the first time I saw an animation. But I don’t know if it should stop, if it should look, because maybe they expect people to just not spend that much time here. But I also don’t get why when this resize is where some of the things stay grayish. I guess from the whole website, you can see that they carefully use the colors. So I guess that’s why it’s completely Great. Great, great out in the saturated, but a little bit of splash of color.

Andrej Zito

Even though it’s there such D saturated. I think maybe it would be nice. I don’t know, I would first have to see it. So yeah, that’s the first part homepage. Now let’s get started with Android localization, so we again have the same thing. Okay. This is very nice. For the first time that I see this part for sign up split into two sections but on a full width ah sound for Crowdin What am I doing actually going to start to use my new thanks grande Zhi Shan academy.com. Dre last word, not a strong one. Okay week okay, I think this is the first time ever remembering the previous videos many times I think all the time I put a weak password and nobody complained he seemed to be the first people who are more secure.

Andrej Zito

I want to just do it faster. I just use my private here. I agree. Nigel stop my picture. All right. Okay, so my very first impression of this is that it looks very is definitely like hey, this is now a UI. So what were your graphical expectation and design expectations? It looks very bland. First, there is no green. Where is the green? Over here? Welcome to crawl. Okay, verify your email. Let me do that quickly. Verify verify.

Andrej Zito

Get on here. I click Verify and I get to the form just resign up What the fuck? That’s weird. I still didn’t verify what the fuck is this? excited to have you on board? Okay, I’m excited to have you on board. Okay, welcome to secure blah, blah, blah. Please confirm your email. I am doing that. needs to hear fuck fuck is going on? What? login twice to login. Oh. Okay, now it verified me. That’s weird. That’s absolutely weird. That’s not how verify usually works, right? Was there any notification that? Was there any message on the forum? Which would say that? Yes, you have been verified? Well, now here is where you log in. Is that because I’m in a different browser? I mean, I’m just in a different window. Okay, refresh. Okay, it’s gone. Well, how would you describe yourself? I am localization manager. Haha. What kind of projects are you planning to work on? Well, Audra, I have doc XLS rochas experience I am very much experience. Submit See, I don’t know why can I somehow be selected? Okay. I don’t know how to do select this back. But you saw before that close was green, which kind of like based on the homepage would imply that that’s the main CTA but of course it means today here is submit. But we don’t have it gray.

Andrej Zito

Now everything is this. This dull? grayish whitish. You why the font is missing. The font is over. There’s no green. No fun. I think I had the same experience with memo q if I’m not mistaken. memo q has even memo q has even more nicer homepage with more color. They’re purple. Which I have your proof back because that’s the color I’m using. And then once we got into the UI, it was totally just white. No South purple. Yeah. I don’t know. Well, I’m a little bit disappointed. Right now. Submit. Okay. Okay, at least the confirmation or the URL vacations are of some color isn’t willing to show my picture big like this on the projects? Why is this? like Facebook? Or is this a social media? or What is this? I don’t know why that much space is used by this. Prefer languages? Why? That’s weird. As my picture there’s my account count. Why do you need to use the space on this and squeeze this in? create projects start by creating or joining a project? create a project again and no green? Why? Why What happened?

Andrej Zito

All right. Darkest Dungeon is a project like that. kailyn check. Robin wrote checks. translations into Thai. Darkest Dungeon. Andres dark is visible to anyone. Your if you guys want to translate the darkest, please feel free to do that. Okay, source language. English. Nice. Okay, this time, I need to pay more attention as we go through the form so that I don’t have to go back to it at the end. So this looks fine. I mean, it’s normal. thing is that the labels for the fields, they are the same as the font size in the fields. But if they bold it, all the labels, it would probably look bad, but I’m still confused. I don’t think like I would call this like the best design form. Which you normally bought the labels. Anyway. So this is okay. I mean, it’s just a field. Okay, it highlights in green, active field public project source language. Here we have a little bit of extra space.

Andrej Zito

Not sure why. So you have project name, project address, project. Okay, so this is about like the project metadata, then you go into the languages. So I guess they use the spacing, the extra spacing here to sort of separate those two sections. Which I don’t know if it’s the best idea. I would prefer to have those fields grouped. Maybe even split this form into two parts. Um, but that just no source language. Okay. Forget languages. Okay. Watch of languages here. We’ll do our standard. German, please. German, German. And we have good Japanese and love the Czech. Yeah. Some languages. I don’t even want to know what it is. Okay, so here we have funnily Hello. Finally, for the first time, we have a button that has green, but green is just different than the green that you’re using on your home page. Is that actually just me being stupid like why the people don’t stick to the same colors that they have on the homepage.

Andrej Zito

This looks completely D saturated. And the thing is that the contrast here is bad. And I will tell you why it’s bad. It’s because the green that we had before on the main website was the green was more greener. So the white stood out nicely against the green. But now that the green is this saturated the white text doesn’t stand out that much. I mean, it still stands out in the whole page because the whole page like I told you, is very bland. So this is the only thing with color. But it still doesn’t shout at me like hey, this is the big button that you need to press when you’re in a working project created successfully, okay, and I was redirected here. Okay. Add Files for translation to this project. Upload Files. Trial expires 14 days. Lower by Yup. Andres Darkest Dungeon settings. Near branch no fast translate. Oh, samples. Oh, they support zip. Setup integration. No faster translate. Sure. Difference between upload files and Add File creates using general. Okay, these are the settings that I had a bunch more settings.

Andrej Zito

Here we project translations. Okay. Built in downloads. Nice. You have different green here. I don’t like the screen. It doesn’t work with the rest. This one is like oversaturated I would say I’m really mature. Because right now if you look at this page, because this thing is so saturated. This is so saturated. It’s like hey, look at this thing. Is this really the biggest thing that I should pay attention to? I don’t think so. The the level of saturation just doesn’t work together. In a way let’s try to upload our files to my skirt that kind of put them at the same time. Nice strings 11 Oh, it has problem configure Oh, okay. Configure columns order of Darkest Dungeon DLC. For all sells, right, right, right right. Content segmentations but content units you’re seeing consistent over more than one sentence several sentences. Yes. Again, oh or I can even move this I usually don’t like the future when you can move the model dialogues. Templates whatever.

Andrej Zito

Again, this is very bland. There are four buttons here to concrete none of them is highlighted as a primary thing which of course is signaling board. I don’t understand why. Oh okay, good. 25 Strix revision one good so we have the files what now translations progress zero person last built where I need to build project what do I need to do now? Oh wait, do I need to press the update? Okay, I have the files here. Okay, this is update of the file so that’s not how I put it into translation and process members it’s just me there’s reports screenshots created automatically noise sorry integrations so integrated with any MP tools strux Okay, here we have the strings parse. Wrong stuff. Darkest Dungeon You will need A band of four heroes on a Perlis blah blah, blah. Okay. So it pours the strings nicely, I think. But what do we do now? Maybe I just quit. Okay, let me start. Okay. Oh, there it is. Okay, I’m super German.

Andrej Zito

So we have German German files here German about how Does that oh, we have private preview nice view which strings require translation all the search strings are listed on the left side bar colors didn’t know their status and icons next to them then no comments or issues created heard the strings. Colors and notice status icons next. Up colors know their status and icons next to them to note the comments. Main services are translated, partially translated, translated, partially approved, approved, hidden. Okay. Let’s see. Here. The green is back. This green looks like the green From the homepage. This is how the form should look like previously. Like the editor, it looks like like this looks fucking good. This looks fucking good. Okay, I don’t want to read everything. Yeah, this looks good. At the first glance, this looks like it’s consistent, first of all consistent with the homepage. And then it just looks better doesn’t look so blonde as the previous one. So I don’t know, I guess they put priority for the editor. Because they’re all the crowd source. crowdsourcing people, that’s where they spend most of the time.

Andrej Zito

But I’m disappointed that for the project managers or the people who manage it, that you is just not good. Oh, and we have empty suggestions. Okay, how does this look like? Okay, this is the first time that I see such a huge so like the selected Oh, oh, wow. The editor looks fucking gets I think which was the which was the was it translate five? Or eyelink? out? No, I lango was just to connect right? Yeah, I think it was transit five that was putting there in context preview and their editor as the biggest highlight because you see the changes. I’m sorry. Because you see the translations right in context like it changes right away. But the way they but the way you entered the translations for that it was really bad. But this looks really really good. Finally, I was losing my feet in this UI.

Andrej Zito

On record and settings everything is translated My stomach is making weird sounds. What we need to do now with it, we have earthing translate. Okay, so let me do a final comment on the UI the girls already saying that it looks very bland. This thing doesn’t belong here at all. I don’t know why it is here. It doesn’t work well with the colors. The less the list here is. I mean, okay, it’s again the colors. Like this is the worst part of my whole experience. which is unfortunate because if you’re the manager you have the the least the worst experience of everything. So translations why now building downloads? crane building progress. We have something download it with number 10 which is Crowdin slate it. We have our translated last year. Nice. Put into these things straight with German. That’s the best one. Yeah, this looks good. So hell then find the link enemies. file looks good. spreadsheet looks good as well. So that was good. We got the files back nicely. Nicely structured. Keeping the original file format. That’s what I like. I think many of the DMS is actually rename it, they add the language postfix so these guys don’t do it. And that’s cool too.

Andrej Zito

My experience so Yeah, we completed the whole round trip in one hour. Hopefully cut it down to a little bit less. My final comments are very nice homepage. pretty clean. The animation was a bit weird. The editor or the crowdsourcing looks very, very good. I think the only thing is that this thing for managers or project managers where you report where you upload files and download them, this is the worst part. It’s super bland and the colors just don’t fit in. I don’t know why they use different shades of green. So those are my comments and we’re done with crowded, you’ve reached the end of the video. Thank you very much for watching my experience with Crowdin. If you liked this video, please give it a thumbs up and consider subscribing. If you like this one, you might enjoy the future episodes that I do with new TMS. You might also check out the playlist that I did with the previous six or seven TMS CES ready, and that’s going to be it for me. So see you in two weeks with the next PMS. Bye bye
