The Opportunity
Opportunities exist in Brisbane, Canberra and Melbourne for enthusiastic, dedicated, and highly motivated individuals with Southeast Asia and the Southwest Pacific language proficiencies.
In this role, you will be responsible for carrying out translation, analysis and reporting of materials in languages other than English that are relevant to the work of ASD and aligned with national security priorities.
You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and enhance quality of language-related products and services. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge projects and to make a significant impact in the field of language capability.
Further to the above information, you will undertake a combination of the following:
- Analyse and interpret language data from various sources.
- Ensure the accuracy and quality of language data.
- Provide linguistic expertise to cross-functional teams.
- Using a variety of information and communications technology, record keeping, and information management systems, and analytical tools.

Our Ideal Candidate
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of regional languages, regional cultures, geo-political issues, linguistic studies or a related field. The ideal candidate will also analyse and interpret language data to support various projects and initiatives.
This role requires a deep understanding of language structures, semantics, and syntax, and the ability to learn to work with large datasets and advanced language processing tools. The successful candidate will also possess excellent analytical skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to communicate complex language concepts to non-experts.
Additionally, the candidate will have the ability to understand values, customs, traditions, and behaviours of people from the mentioned region, an understanding of geopolitical issues, and the ability to use analytical tools and data literacy techniques, and continuously seek out opportunities for professional development and growth.
We are looking for candidates with the ability to quickly digest and analyse foreign-language materials and communicate clear and accurate summaries in English to key stakeholders, applying their relevant cultural and geopolitical knowledge to this analysis.
