Role Description This is a full-time, remote role for a Japanese Transcriber. The Japanese Transcriber will listen to or watch Japanese audio and video content and accurately convert it into written text following project-specific guidelines. Responsibilities include segmenting and time-stamping audio where required, ensuring proper spelling, punctuation, and formatting, and applying consistent transcription conventions. The role also involves reviewing and correcting transcripts for accuracy, clarity, and completeness, as well as flagging unclear audio, inconsistencies, or missing information. The successful candidate will collaborate with project managers, meet assigned deadlines, and maintain strict confidentiality and data security standards.
Qualifications

  • Strong command of Japanese (native or near-native) and solid comprehension of spoken Japanese across different accents and speaking speeds.
  • Proficient reading and writing skills in Japanese, including correct use of kanji, kana, punctuation, and contemporary terminology.
  • Good understanding of English for guidelines, communication with project teams, and occasional bilingual tasks.
  • Excellent listening skills and attention to detail to accurately capture spoken content, including nuances, fillers, and non-verbal cues when required.
  • Experience with transcription, captioning, or subtitling tools and basic familiarity with time-coding and file formats.
  • Ability to follow style guides, project instructions, and quality standards consistently across assignments.
  • Strong typing speed and accuracy, with the ability to work efficiently on long-form audio while maintaining quality.
  • Reliable internet connection, personal computer, and a quiet workspace suitable for focused audio work.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to meet deadlines in a fully remote, independently managed environment.
  • Prior experience in Japanese transcription, localization, or media/entertainment projects is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with confidentiality practices and handling sensitive or proprietary content responsibly.
