Localization Department Manager

Responsibilities

  1. Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and train a team of localizers; foster a collaborative culture, conduct performance reviews, and manage employee-related issues in partnership with HR.
  2. Resource & Talent Management: Responsible for personnel attendance management and resource allocation for all ongoing projects, driving the hiring, onboarding, and capability evaluation (including AI skills) of new localization specialists.
  3. Quality Assurance & Asset Maintenance: Define and enforce department-wide linguistic and functional quality standards, ensuring all project schedules are met and localization assets (style guides, glossaries, etc.) are meticulously updated.
  4. Process Optimization & AI Integration: Conduct quarterly portfolio reviews to eliminate bottlenecks and optimize workflows, while co-managing the implementation of AI across all stages of localization.
  5. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Cooperate closely with developers, narrative design, art, operations, and marketing to streamline the localization process, align timelines, and keep all teams on the same page to successfully meet project deadlines.
  6. Hands-on Translation: Regularly translate and localize game content from Chinese into your native language to remain hands-on and up-to-date with daily workflows and tools.

Qualifications

  1. Professional-level proficiency (written and spoken) in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
  2. Must have a proven track record of hands-on localization/translation from Chinese into English (or native language), with a deep understanding of cultural nuances, gaming slang, and idiomatic expressions in both Chinese and Western markets.
  3. Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Localization Management, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience).
  4. 3+ years of experience in localization project management, preferably within the gaming, entertainment, or software industry.
  5. 2+ years of direct people management experience, with a proven track record of leading, mentoring, and training a team.
  6. In-depth knowledge of localization workflows, familiarity with AI and Machine Translation technologies and their application in modern localization workflows, and strong expertise in creating and maintaining localization assets, including style guides and glossaries.
  7. Excellent cross-functional collaboration skills, strong communication skills, strong analytical skills with the ability to conduct portfolio reviews, manage resource allocation, and implement process optimizations.
  8. Passion for video games and a deep understanding of gaming culture across different regions.
  9. Experience working in an agile development environment.

Additional Information

  • Job type: Full-time in-office position
  • Location: SHANGHAI, Loushanguan Rd Line 2 Metro Station
  • Work Visa: Provided
  • Salary: 18k-35k RMB (depending on experience)
  • Working hours: Monday to Friday 10am-7pm (including one-hour break)
