Role Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Team Manager to lead our English subtitling team in a dynamic and fast-paced localization environment. As a Team Manager, you will oversee the day-to-day operations of a team responsible for creating accurate and culturally relevant subtitles for a variety of media content. You will work closely with project managers, linguists, and freelancers to ensure high-quality subtitling that meets client requirements and deadlines. Additionally, you will play a key role in adjusting the team’s capacity to meet fluctuating project demands while ensuring consistent quality and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Team Leadership: Lead, mentor, and support a team of subtitlers and linguists, ensuring high standards of quality and performance are consistently met.
  • Project Management: Oversee the subtitling process from start to finish, ensuring all tasks are completed on time and within scope and that deadlines are adhered to.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular quality checks of subtitles to ensure they meet both linguistic and technical standards to ensure that subtitles  always meets or exceeds client expectations.
  • Client Interaction: Act as the point of contact for clients, addressing any concerns or feedback and ensuring satisfaction with the subtitling process and deliverables.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with other departments to align on project goals and ensure smooth workflows.
  • Training and Development: Provide ongoing training and development opportunities to team members to enhance their subtitling skills, tool proficiency, and industry knowledge.
  • Process Optimization: Identify and implement process improvements to streamline workflows, enhance productivity, and maintain high-quality outputs without compromising accuracy or consistency.
  • Capacity Adjustment: Monitor project demands and adjust team capacity as needed by reallocating resources, adjusting schedules, or bringing in additional support. Ensure the team can flexibly respond to varying workloads while maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Resource Allocation: Manage team resources and workload distribution to ensure efficiency and balance across all subtitling projects.
  • Reporting and Feedback: Monitor team performance, generate reports, and provide constructive feedback to team members to promote improvement and growth.
  • Scalability and Flexibility: Work with senior management to forecast team needs and ensure the necessary resources, tools, and processes are in place to meet both current and future project demands.

Qualifications

  • Experience: 3 to 5 years of proven experience in managing a team of subtitlers, linguists, or similar roles in a localization or media industry.
  • Skills:
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Ability to adjust team capacity based on fluctuating project demands while maintaining quality.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
  • Familiarity with Google Suite and proficient in subtitling software.
  • Familiarity with video formats, file types, and subtitling conventions.
  • Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with clients and team members.
  • Language Proficiency: Native or near-native fluency in English, with a deep understanding of the subtitling process, linguistic accuracy, and cultural context.
  • Education: A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Linguistics, Translation, Media Studies, or similar) is preferred but not required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in localization or subtitle creation for diverse media content (e.g., TV shows, movies, video games, etc.).
  • Familiarity with quality assurance protocols and metrics for subtitling.
