Computational Linguist

Job Title: Linguist III

Location: US -REMOTE

Pay Rate: $60/hr on W2

Estimated Start Date: ASAP

Duration: 6 Months with potential for extension

Responsibilities:

The main function of a Linguist III is to provide high-quality linguistic services and language expertise to support localization and product development across various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Reality Labs.

Key Duties:

  • Translate and edit a variety of content, including user interface (UI) and long-form text, from English to Brazilian Portuguese.
  • Handle urgent and high-priority internal translation requests.
  • Perform linguistic and functional testing of translated products.
  • Analyze and evaluate machine-translated and GenAI-generated text.
  • Update and maintain terminology databases and style guides.
  • Conduct localizability checks to ensure readiness for global release.
  • Evaluate and implement stakeholder linguistic feedback; make final implementation decisions.
  • Resolve linguistic quality assurance (LQA) issues.
  • Offer linguistic and cultural guidance across various localization projects.
  • Provide support and mentorship to external vendor translation teams.

Must-Have Skills

  • Native fluency in Brazilian Portuguese and near-native fluency in English.
  • 3+ years of experience in professional translation and editing.
  • Demonstrated experience with linguistic quality management, particularly from English to Brazilian Portuguese.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • In-depth understanding of Brazilian culture and trends.

Preferred Skills

  • Degree in Translation Studies, Linguistics, Communication, or a related field.
  • Experience in the social media and mobile app space.
  • Familiarity with computer-aided translation (CAT) tools.
  • Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.

  • High attention to detail and commitment to linguistic accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently and manage urgent tasks efficiently.

Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Translation, Linguistics, or Communication preferred.
