Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Qualified Translator role based in Marib Governorate, Yemen. The Qualified Translator will provide high-quality written and oral translation between relevant working languages (for example Arabic and English) to support medical, administrative, and coordination activities. Daily tasks include translating medical documents, reports, guidelines, consent forms, training materials, and internal communication, ensuring accuracy, clarity, and confidentiality. The role will also involve consecutive and/or simultaneous interpretation during meetings, trainings, community discussions, and interactions between MSF staff, patients, and local partners. The translator will collaborate closely with medical, logistical, and coordination teams to ensure consistent terminology, culturally appropriate communication, and adherence to MSF standards and security protocols. The position may require occasional support in drafting or reviewing communication materials for local stakeholders while maintaining neutrality and respect for MSF principles.
Qualifications
- Strong language skills, including advanced proficiency in Arabic and English (spoken and written), with excellent command of grammar, style, and terminology in both languages.
- Demonstrated experience in written translation of technical and non-technical documents, preferably including medical, humanitarian, or legal content.
- Proven skills in oral interpretation (consecutive and/or simultaneous) in meetings, trainings, and patient or community interactions.
- Ability to ensure accuracy, confidentiality, and cultural sensitivity in all translations, with attention to nuance and context.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize multiple translation requests and meet tight deadlines.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work in a multicultural, multidisciplinary team and adapt to changing operational needs.
- Good command of basic IT tools and office software (e.g., Word, Excel, email, shared drives); familiarity with translation tools is an asset.
- Previous experience working with humanitarian organizations, NGOs, or in healthcare settings is an advantage.
