Job Title: Linguist III
Location: US -REMOTE
Pay Rate: $60/hr on W2
Estimated Start Date: ASAP
Duration: 6 Months with potential for extension
Responsibilities:
The main function of a Linguist III is to provide high-quality linguistic services and language expertise to support localization and product development across various platforms including Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Reality Labs.
Key Duties:
- Translate and edit a variety of content, including user interface (UI) and long-form text, from English to Brazilian Portuguese.
- Handle urgent and high-priority internal translation requests.
- Perform linguistic and functional testing of translated products.
- Analyze and evaluate machine-translated and GenAI-generated text.
- Update and maintain terminology databases and style guides.
- Conduct localizability checks to ensure readiness for global release.
- Evaluate and implement stakeholder linguistic feedback; make final implementation decisions.
- Resolve linguistic quality assurance (LQA) issues.
- Offer linguistic and cultural guidance across various localization projects.
- Provide support and mentorship to external vendor translation teams.
Must-Have Skills
- Native fluency in Brazilian Portuguese and near-native fluency in English.
- 3+ years of experience in professional translation and editing.
- Demonstrated experience with linguistic quality management, particularly from English to Brazilian Portuguese.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
- In-depth understanding of Brazilian culture and trends.
Preferred Skills
- Degree in Translation Studies, Linguistics, Communication, or a related field.
- Experience in the social media and mobile app space.
- Familiarity with computer-aided translation (CAT) tools.
- Strong cross-functional communication and collaboration skills.
