MAKING AN IMPACT
The Cancer Information team is looking for a French Translator who will translate cancer information for the Canadian Cancer Society.
The successful candidate will have excellent skills in translation and revision (grammar, clarity, tone, style) and a passion for plain language. They should also have a strong working knowledge of localization processes and tools.
What You’ll Be Doing
- Translate and revise cancer-related information from English to French.
- Translate and adapt cancer information from English to French in different formats, including digital, print and video.
- Translate clinical trial records and patient education materials about clinical trials.
- Ensure translations are accurate, clear, suitable and relevant for francophone audiences in Canada
- Follow CCS standards and plain language and health literacy best practices.
- Research terminology to support translation and adaptation work.
- Proofread content in its final format (PDF, web banners, emails, print, etc.).
- Translate within established deadlines.
- Collaborate with other translators and teams to deliver translations and support projects.
- Collaborate regularly with content specialists, editors and other translators to clarify terminology and ensure consistency.
- Advise on other initiatives and attend project meetings as needed, mostly conducted in English.
- Meet with the content team regularly to improve the content development processes.
- Use tools to deliver translations on time; Monday.com and XTM
- Help expand the reach of CCS cancer information products and services by applying plain-language principles, using inclusive language, etc.
- Develop and maintain cancer information standards and guidelines in French
- Respond to queries from staff about grammar and CCS style and spelling (based on the writing manual).
- Contribute to various projects, including terminology projects and French style guidelines for CCS.
- Contribute to content and style guidelines, templates, editorial policies and best practices, in collaboration with other team members.
- Stay up to date on medical and healthcare terminology along with developments in inclusive language.
- Contribute to our culture of diversity, inclusion, belonging and equity (DIBE) by ensuring that all staff feel represented, valued, and heard across all aspects of their identity, including gender, age, religion, ethnicity, nationality, race, and sexuality.

Qualifications
- Translation certificate or degree in translation. Undergraduate degree in French literature, linguistics, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience in translation.
- Bilingualism (French/English) is required due to the nature of this role
- At least 3 years of experience as a translator.
- Familiarity with translating health information and terminology.
- Knowledge of the translation process, terminology and localization techniques.
- Experience using translation memories and tools, such as Antidote, Trados, XTM, etc.
- Knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Adobe Acrobat and ability to learn new applications.
- OTTIAQ membership is an asset.
- Sense of initiative and ability to solve problems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet multiple deadlines.
- Comfortable using translation tools and content management systems.
