Major Responsibilities
- Translate complex financial documents – Accurately translate a wide range of financial publications, including IPO prospectuses, annual and interim reports, circulars, announcement statements, and corporate communications, from English to Chinese and vice versa, ensuring technical accuracy and adherence to financial terminology standards.
- Finalize time-sensitive documents – Take ownership of the finalization process for financial documents, particularly daily announcements and regulatory filings, verifying that all translations align with source texts and comply with disclosure requirements before submission or publication.
- Edit and proofread translated content – Review and refine translations produced by team members or external vendors, checking for grammatical correctness, consistency in financial terms, logical flow, and proper formatting according to house style guides.
- Maintain terminology databases – Contribute to the development and upkeep of translation memory systems and glossaries specific to financial reporting (e.g., HKEX/SFC terminology), ensuring consistency across all client deliverables.
- Coordinate with internal teams – Liaise with editors, typesetters, and project managers to resolve linguistic or formatting issues, clarify source-text ambiguities, and meet strict production schedules, especially during peak reporting seasons.
- Perform quality assurance checks – Conduct thorough QA reviews of final proofs, including cross-referencing figures, dates, and legal disclaimers, to eliminate any discrepancies before client delivery.
- Adapt to urgent ad-hoc requests – Handle rush translation tasks for last-minute financial announcements or regulatory updates, maintaining accuracy while working under tight deadlines.
Key Requirements
- Education – Degree in Translation, Language, Linguistics, or a related discipline.
- Language proficiency – Excellent command of both written English and Chinese (traditional Chinese preferred; proficiency in both simplified and traditional is a plus).
- Attention to detail – Strong eye for detail to ensure accuracy, consistency, and quality in all deliverables.
- Experience – Minimum 1 year of relevant experience for Translator level; minimum 3 years for Senior Translator level. Experience in financial translation or publishing is highly preferred.
- Work under pressure – Proven ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines without compromising quality.
- Team collaboration – Good communication skills and a team-oriented mindset.
- Shift availability – Must be available for rotating shifts: 10:00 AM – 7:00 PM or 2:00 PM – 11:00 PM.
