Role Description This is a full-time remote role for a Translator at Sahelcore Language Services. The Translator will be responsible for translating written materials between assigned Sahelian or West African languages and English (and/or other target languages), ensuring accuracy, clarity, and cultural appropriateness. Daily tasks include reviewing source documents, conducting terminology and background research, maintaining glossaries, and collaborating with project managers and other linguists to meet deadlines and quality standards. The Translator will also perform basic editing and proofreading of translated content, follow client-specific style guides, and use computer-assisted translation (CAT) tools where appropriate. Participation in team meetings, continuous learning about regional cultures, and occasional support for related language services (such as transcription or adaptation) are part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Strong translation skills between English and at least one Sahelian or West African language, with the ability to convey meaning accurately and naturally.
  • Proficiency in editing and proofreading translated texts to ensure consistency, clarity, and adherence to client guidelines.
  • Ability to conduct terminology and subject-matter research and maintain organized glossaries or termbases.
  • Comfort with using digital tools, such as CAT software, document-sharing platforms, and online communication tools.
  • Good understanding of cultural contexts in the Sahel and West Africa, with sensitivity to local norms and nuances.
  • Strong written communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines independently.
  • Previous experience in professional translation, localization, or linguistic services is highly beneficial.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Translation, Linguistics, Language Studies, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Ability to work effectively in a remote, multicultural team and maintain confidentiality of client materials.
