POEditor is a “software localization management platform, perfect to manage collaborative or crowdsourced translation projects”. In this video, you’ll see my first experience with the online service. How did it go?

In this series, we look at the UX of all TMS tools in the localization industry. I’ve documented my whole journey with POEditor TMS from the first home page visit, through creating a project and machine-translating the terms, to finally downloading the translated XLS file.

Andrej Zito

Hey guys, how are you doing? Welcome to another episode of The PMS UX series where together we explore the various TMS tools that we have in the industry. My name is Andrej Zito and in this video I’ll take you on a journey of discovering POEditor, I have to tell you, it was definitely a surprise. For those of you who are new to the series, our process is very simple. I roll the dice which then tells me which TMS to try out next. And then using this TMS I try to translate a very simple word document and Excel spreadsheet. We have now 30 DMS, so let’s roll the dice again. bom bom bom bom, bom, bom, bom, bom, bom, bom. Number two, something on top, the POEditor. That’s the new thing that was just added. And I have absolutely no idea what this thing does. POEditor. Now before we get into the main part of the video, let me make a quick disclaimer. Everything that I share in this video is just my own personal opinion about how I feel about PMS. how I feel about the UI, how I see the design, by no means is this a recommendation whether you should buy this TMS or not, whether you should use it, whether it suits your needs, because everybody has different needs. And with that being said, let’s finally look at POEditor.

Andrej Zito

Let’s see, POEditor is an API for minor software localization management, but Oh, that’s nice website. Try it for free. We can try it for free. That’s okay, so are we reviewing this? Or is it just for software? Oh, they have so many clients. Oh, my God. The first first look is actually so good. I like it. I like it. I mean, yeah, let’s go. Right. That’s why we came here to review this thing. So it’s not just an editor. That’s what’s kind of confusing a little bit. Sounds like it’s just like editor. If you if I skip the Oh, it seems like it’s like p e editor like post editing editor. But I guess from what we see here is the localization management platform. That’s truly efficient. It’s for teams and blah, blah, blah. So it is a management platform. centrally translation management platform, but localization. Okay.

Andrej Zito

So the logo, the parrot, super cool recoil looks very funky with the colors. I like the I like the color palette. It’s very color for color full. And these colors we haven’t seen anywhere. Before. This color scheme reminds me of who has these colors. I think it’s I think it’s this company in Slovakia that does. Internet. Yep. Very, very close. Very close. Alright. Anyway, um, this looks good. Menu features pricing. Okay, we have underlying on the hover side in the typical thing here. That’s very nice. Okay, let’s look at the unique value think book assessment report platform, blah, blah, blah, trusted your app website game or other software in a team or independently using a friendly yet powerful online solution. me Okay.

Andrej Zito

Here, they just have a logo, which is I mean, okay, it’s nice. Maybe a video, I don’t see any video here would be better. Because this is kind of like just like a nice graphic. I mean, it’s not bad, right? So technically, we just have the two parts repeated. And here we have, of course, whenever you do something about translation and localization need to display different characters to make everyone know that this is about translation localization. But I mean, it looks nice, that’s for sure. Then we have tried for free. The big city button the contrast is very good. Because work great together. I’m happy that they chose a dark text on a yellow button. I seen many people still use the white one. I think this simply has a better contrast and we have some action on hover so the button moves up a little bit. That’s very good. Kick. I like it. thought out in every way to make your workflow smooth.

Andrej Zito

See below some insights into the key features, our software localization to offer us or get a full feature rundown. So here we have few things, multiple ways to translate Oh, you can crowdsource, Oh, nice an order. Okay, I guess that’s using their service. GitHub. Yikes. I don’t have those things. Real Time translation updates. Course slack. Oh, it integrates. Okay. Smart translation memory. What makes it smart? Were you stressed translations? That’s a normal translation memory. Simple REST API. automate. So it seems to be tailored. That’s one thing that we saw before. Right? It’s tailored for app. Software, website game. Not sure if maybe I’ll be able to plug in WordPress? I don’t know. We’ll see later. Okay. So these are the things that you get. I mean, it looks more like a features rather than benefits, but okay. Route localization service provider for, and this is one of the biggest lists that we see of the clients.

Andrej Zito

One of the things maybe that I would point out, you know, I usually like more petting here, but it still looks good. Maybe they were just trying to be more efficient with the space. I like the fact that all the logos are the saturated through they’re like grayish on the hover day, they get the color, which is good, because otherwise, if everything was colorful, it would be crazy, especially below this one because this thing here is also very colorful. So yeah, that’s a really a lot of you see a lot of big names. IKEA, Telefonica, Viacom. Oh, Young’s Converse, although good. That’s a really an Yeah, by the way, this is something that I haven’t heard of before. And I know that it wasn’t on the list before. I’m pretty sure it wasn’t on the list before. So good. POEditor. Correct. Currently understand the following glocalization formats are XLS x, we’re safe. We’re saved, we can use our stupid old school spreadsheet. I don’t see a doc.

Andrej Zito

But in the worst case scenario, I’ll just move the doc into the spreadsheet. Okay, here we have some screenshots from the app. This is the problem, at least I see here. Okay, so I see here, at least a nice dashboard. And it at the first glance, it looks very nice and neat. As we go further, like for example, this one like I can kind of like read that this is grabbing English French. But I don’t know if people with some vision problems like if this would be very readable to them. I’m not sure like if the whole point of these images this just to give you like some blurry vision of how the app looks like. Or they really want to show you like hey, this is how our app looks like in which case it should be there should be like a higher resolution or like zoom in on certain parts. Because it’s very very blurry. I don’t know.

Andrej Zito

We think POEditor is beautiful on the inside. But you don’t have to take our word for it preview POEditors collaborative transition principle. brazing. screenshots? Yeah, fingers that the screenshots don’t so much and I cannot even maximize them. Oh, see, now they maximize so I can open them. But people probably don’t know that. can open the image and see see so this looks nice, because now I can actually read and I’m really excited to see the dashboard because it looks very very good. It looks super good. Okay, here we go. Sam, what is this artist supposed to be kinda like a tweets or is this just like, customer references or testimonial? Okay, this thing is confusing. This is very confusing to me. So it’s kind of like this thing, you know, this Blitz, like where you are. But this is the first time ever that I see that. The bullets kind of like change based on which bullet you selected. So now I’m on the first. So then there’s the second and third and when I select the second bullet, I mean the second circle. The first one goes here. That’s very weird to me.

Andrej Zito

I don’t know why. Normally I would. Normally you have like maybe arrows here and you can also have the bullets at the bottom. They’re in a fixed position. This to me seems very, very weird. That’s the first biggest thing that I see here. And we’re at the bottom. So this will be a very fast starter software localization project now, get 1000 strings and the project’s language for free, or check out our affordable pricing plans. Okay, we don’t want to go into that. Drive for free. So that’s again, the kind of like, repetition of the lease tried or sign up. So yeah, color wise, it looks good. So my only comment is screenshots. And this thing, this is the biggest thing. And the footer looks looks nice. Yeah. Yeah, no, no, no issues, I’m very happy. Eventually, I will do like a list of like, I don’t know, five or seven TMS tools based on their design. And this will definitely be a big contender. So far, we’re just on the homepage. But even from the screenshot, it looks. The platform will be very, very nice. So I’m really looking forward to it.

Andrej Zito

So let’s go in to the platform tried for free. Register, create a free account. Oh, we can register using Google. That’s very good look as your app. Okay, we have again, the repetition of the of calling features, not benefits, join other great companies great again, repeating that the big names are already using them. So that’s cool. Okay, so all register using na, email. We are inside terms and data policy agreement. In order to use POEditor you need to agree to the terms and conditions. Good. I agree. I agree. Ok. Buttons look good, exactly like this should. The one which is the one you want people to click has more saturation. This one is kind of like less contrast because it’s like at the cancel. So that’s very gold. I agree. Okay, I’m here.

Andrej Zito

Okay, so we already saw this from the screenshot, oh, my God, the way you added a new project. It’s super nice. This is super nice, super intuitive. I mean, not intuitive, but super cool. Like, this is what I imagine like a, like a modern web app. Look, looks like. Okay, strings used. Okay, so that’s our free plan. dashboard. Okay, so I guess if it’s grayed out, it means that’s where I am right now. And contributors. I can click OK. I like the many. Right ready to create project right. Got it. I also like these in app tutorials to guide you. I think we had it somewhere before I don’t know where was it localized? The editor? I don’t know. Okay, what is the dashboard projects? percentage 0% zeros of a project we have some some aggregated metrics here zero shares your public guests are crowdsourcing assigned contributors strings use you can change those nice. Okay, so I guess we add in your project who made darkness Benjen.

Andrej Zito

As always, this is a test description. The description will appear in the invitation email sent to contributors and on the join page for public projects. This is okay. This is a sample project or my UX review of POEditor. We shall okay. Okay, we have a project Great. Okay, it guides me see it guides me begin to set up your project by adding a source language. Okay. Add a new language. English let’s put it us as is our practice. Okay. more languages your project from here. Okay. The project settings are here. It’s where you can add administrators make the project public for crowdsourcing? Yep.

Andrej Zito

So the default reference languages so you can invite people to join the language using the Add contributed button. Their work is kind of good limit of your plan okay? upload terms to your project from here go ahead try okay now how do you define like we had the same thing in localize now that’s where they were using the key metric key and sip key and value I don’t know. English us okay so not a language I’ll do define which one is Japanese okay you can only add one language not the best sciacca one What am I doing this Australian Belgian Swiss Miss out he finished out look some work there’s no Germany in German final check language edits Kate Thank you.

Andrej Zito

This looks also nice the notifications you don’t have any terms in your project import or manually add some go into the settings first. project details Darkest Dungeon default reference language English export empty translations from with our empty translations access to project administrators okay and last settings read access all languages allow contributors to set their own reference language using the translation no automatic translation proofreading now so project board as I approve lessons, I don’t know what it means. Public project. delete delete, okay. stats. We don’t have anything yet right? languages How do you change the colors for the language automatic question mark. So let’s try to import something are by your default spreadsheet. Let’s see if it works. Maybe expect just like two columns import terms only also import translations in what this thing I don’t understand what it means. Import terms on like tax file okay.

Andrej Zito

Poor translations context reference. What is this? Why is it on the six? Oh, it only took the first think that’s why. Yeah. So I really need to really find the list. POEditor parses five columns at beginning with the first row. Order is termed translation. Okay, context reference common. Okay. So then that bad translations click to add context. Yeah. Yeah, that’s why. Okay, so let’s say we have this so how do I translate for chick? swinging holds all the traditional English page, including improving exports. Feel the terms and transition of clinical needs? Okay. Everything’s automated. It’s nice. So I think I’m slowly getting it. Oh, we can move even here. Okay, so now I’m in a Czech project. Does it mean that you don’t add the language if its source language, your editor source language. Setting a default reference language is useful when working with localization files that contain string IDs keys can be set by the project owner and administrators on a project level for all contributors to see how to set up your sulfurous source language to your language. Okay, I did it. click on Import on the project page to bring the terms from the localization files, books project. And shooting or something. Oh, okay. Oh, okay.

Andrej Zito

DRL default reference language, change the URL for the same things change your default Okay. Okay. So I should have done it the other way. I should have done it the other way. What else can we learn here? Good crowdsource this tool looks so good. I mean, good terms. Can I do read all the terms? Go. Okay. languages. This is my reference language, right? Change language? No, we’re not changing this. Is it Marcus? reference? It is. Okay, good. So I think what I need to do now is I’ll make a copy of this and do this for her. And I’m going to move these things the way I’m going to do all these guys here. What am I doing? Here? is here, nope. One more. Okay. Those are all my strings and three more on the pop. Not on the top. Good drop. Forms price. So it ignores formatting, right. So can we have all the terms now in the first row that is viewed? Yeah, I’m not going to get a clean translation that preserves all the cells in the content and different things like here because otherwise they wouldn’t parse it. barsh it show where am I? I’m here so import.

Andrej Zito

Let’s try again, your editor and also import translations in English us as options, nope. Options import file. By the way, if I’m not commanding anything, is because I just like the UI like everything here. offers the icons look good. This looks good. Okay, you got 21 terms first. 21 terms at good. DLC description all is here. Yeah. Even this term is like two sentences. So it’s different from segmentation that I’m used to from the old school credits where every question every sentence was warning tone. This is like one term think twice. Okay, so now this is English. Why does it need translation? Why do you need a translation? I don’t get it. Even I import it. Can’t say if you want to edit. Sir. Anyway, how you can copy terms washbowl translations nice.

Andrej Zito

Okay, we copied everything good. Was flush. Yeah, delete. Okay, got Wi Fi contributors. Okay, so everything is here. But we have a second page nice. Free Free. Yes. And already saved right. That’s how it works. Yes. So no saving good. So English is 100% because it’s the same knowledge striper. Check. Strafford check and let’s try to automate. No, actually, no. Let’s first try German. We always start with German. Let’s do the automatic translation. So strings to translate 21 good, how many terms do we actually have 21. Okay, so it’s actually more Turing’s.

Andrej Zito

What is this instead, the reference language Okay, okay, we’re it’s 123 114 characters switcher completes the target machine translations Yes. similar form generated by the provider you choose is an 80 characters automatic transition characters from America currently have 10,000 good we can do this if I go on Google or oh let’s try a deep l a whole hour to translate from English to German using the texts in doesn’t matter right it’s the same translate what’s the transfer that must choose the language What are we what okay just wait for English to German results translated strings 21 use characters 814 characters left 9000 All this can also add more language automatically yes or even asks me. Oh my god.

Andrej Zito

Yes, please translate now. Beautiful. No, no mercial session. Okay, so this is our German What is this thing? automatic translation Okay, comment. little fuzzy translation. Toggle toggle. I don’t know what it means. You’ll see beschreibung plot for men yes beautiful beautiful beautiful word to the sort of the artist the grocer in help sort of white their own 20 you need 2017 and help them exclusive and logical and hero Yep, it looks so fucking good man. And this is fine. Yeah, that’s right. Yeah. My only question is now can you somehow export there’s export right okay, so input is for getting in new files in oh my god looks so simple. Okay, what happened to check?

Andrej Zito

Oh shit no no, Japanese is translated in some way. It looks like Japanese so we got to consider the correct check. Oh, why did you not translate the bell? Oh, because there’s no check. Microsoft has checked let’s try Microsoft. Word is to say if it’s 814 and I needed twice 1600 Yeah, okay didn’t count it before. Use the text in English us Sure. Translate now. You have translated all the languages in their projects. The auto poppies platform itself. Carmina Bordeaux she lives nice Soo. Beautiful. Does it even matter that I don’t? Yeah, I think we will skip for this one we will skip the document. Because it will I will have to pretty much just turn it into a spreadsheet like this one. So yeah, but I mean fuck me like the user interface. It’s so good. Okay, now my question is we have it translated. We want to get it out. So let’s start with German export export XLS Yes. an export that this is us creates zero your editor profit and dumped around.

Andrej Zito

Why? Can’t guess it’s the way the bad 2121 right. It just looks longer here because of the wrapping. No, wait, what I have more here Why? What happened? You’ll see descriptions platform price right? 12345 okay Microsoft This is because the strings were repeated 12345 there I have one in three does it ignore to hear repeated strings? Yeah, these two look the same with the iPad and then these ones look the same as well because they don’t have the prestige PlayStation Vita This one is PlayStation Vita. This one’s we don’t and this one is this PC. Okay, so it ignores duplicate things. Alright, now he gets multiple multiple and really yeah, it’s only once okay. And this is how we got it so yeah, yeah perfect. I mean we got the translations back the automatic translation integration how the other machine translation is integrated into this is just amazing. He was so simple. He was so fucking simple. It’s incredible.

Andrej Zito

And I guess if you use like, like a, like a JSON file or something better than like a stupid spreadsheet, then you’ll get it in the right format. Anyway I think that’s it for POEditor right? I don’t have much more to add. This was super, super nice experience $105 strings for level languages 21 total terms 84 available translations. We didn’t get to try to contributors or like crowdsourcing this but that’s something completely else. Ooh, we have here. This is our overview. This is a dashboard for our projects. Darkest Dungeon Okay, it shows the languages on hover and you can see the progress 100% complete nice. We also didn’t bother with proofreading I think Yeah, that’s right here bom bom so I think Yeah, that’s it. I mean, I don’t have anything else to say about the UI. It looks super good. This looks good. This looks good. The progress bar looks good. This looks good as well. I think he ordered by progress. That’s very nice. I think we There was even a way to change the layout right but that was here on this one. Yeah, this looks super nice. I mean, this is one of the if not the best, you eyes Oh my god, this is so good. Yeah, that’s it. I don’t have anything more to say.

Andrej Zito

For the first time we might have a video that will not go over one hour. This was this was a very very pleasant experience from very pleasant. Congratulations to the to the team. That’s it guys.
